Beginner Triathlete Clinic

Perspective. This sport is all about perspective. I was reminded of that last night at my first Beginner Triathlon Clinic. 30-40 triathlon newbies showed up to learn tips and answer questions about what to wear, what to do and what to eat on race day. It was awesome! I love spreading the gospel of triathlon because it further promotes a healthy lifestyle and hopefully shows people that anything truly is possible. I’m reminded that this sport is supposed to be fun and exciting! It’s not always about shaving every second off your time. Sometimes it is about hugging your family members. Sometimes it is learning about chafing the hard way. Sometimes it is about surviving the swim (it’s always about that!)

Feedback was positive and I can only hope it makes an impact to those who were there! Thanks so much to the MOFOs who were there to show your support: Joe P, Joey, Rosita, Holly, Padre, Rhonda and Leslie B…Your presence and support means so much as we usher other new athletes into the world of the MOFOs!

Thoughts on Ironman Texas

I’m laying in my hotel bed with the lights and TV off. I’ve taken a nap, dropped off my bags and my bike, and I’ve eaten way too many carbs. I feel sluggish and grumpy. That can only mean one thing. Race day is here.

Ironically, I’m not nervous even though I’ve gone through the usual athlete check-in, pasta dinners, quick runs and rides. I thought I would get nervous at the practice swim and I didn’t. I really and truly wouldn’t change anything about my training.

Most importantly, though, I’m so excited and happy for the athletes I’ve coached and supported along the way. I’ve watched this group of athletes inspire each other, make each other laugh, and truly enjoy this journey. I haven’t seen fear, remorse, dread, or pity parties. All I’ve seen is continuous support and love for each other. That has touched me more than anything.

Even the last two days in the Woodlands have been a non-stop show of love and support. Lunches, dinners, Sherpas, wine, texts, pictures, and general happiness and support. My heart swells and I know it will, once again, tomorrow when I cross the finish line.

I keep wanting to just say, “Thank you” and I’m not even sure why or to whom. I just feel full…of carbs and life!

National Bike Month

At long last, my gorgeous Specialized Amira arrived and was picked up this week! As luck would have it, the weather was horrible on Thursday, but I got to hop on and give it a spin on Friday and Saturday. Holy Moly, she’s fast! Can’t wait to get her on the mountains of Colorado in just a few weeks
